Mounjaro FAQs

How to Inject Mounjaro?

Inject Mounjaro subcutaneously (under the skin) in your stomach (abdomen), thigh, or upper arm. Use Mounjaro once a week, at any time of day.

For injecting Mounjaro:

Stomach: Choose a spot at least 2 inches away from your belly button. Avoid the waistline and hip bones.

Thigh: Inject into the outer thigh. Do not use the inner thigh.

Back of the Upper Arm: Aim for 3 inches below the shoulder or above the elbow. This area is hard to reach when self-injecting, so it’s better if someone else gives you the injection.

Yes, Mounjaro is generally considered better than Wegovy for weight loss. Clinical trails show that Mounjaro leads to an average weight loss of nearly 25% after one year, compared to Wegovy’s average weight loss of around 16%.

Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) starts to work within hours of the first injection, reaching peak levels in your system within 8 to 72 hours. Initial improvements in blood sugar control and appetite suppression are noticeable within 1-2 weeks, with significant weight loss typically observed by the end of the first month.

It can take 8 to 12 weeks to see substantial weight loss, and continued benefits in weight loss and blood sugar management are common by six months, especially when combined with lifestyle changes. Individual results may vary, and your healthcare provider may adjust the dosage for optimal outcomes. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions.

How to use the Mounjaro Kwik Pen?

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Check the Pen:

    • Store unused pens in the fridge (2°C to 8°C). After use, they can be kept at room temperature (up to 30°C).

    • Ensure the pen is undamaged, the dose strength and medication name match your prescription, and the pen is not expired.

    • Check for cloudiness or particles. Air bubbles are normal. Do not use if there are any issues.

  2. Wash Your Hands:

    • Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water or use antibacterial hand sanitiser before injecting.

  3. Choose Your Injection Site:

    • Follow your doctor’s guidance on site selection (stomach or thigh). For the back of the upper arm, seek assistance. Rotate injection sites to avoid repetition.

  4. Prepare the Pen:

    • Wipe the inner red seal with a swab, use a new needle for each injection, and remove the outer needle shield.

  5. Prime the Pen:

    • Turn the dose knob until you hear two clicks and ‘0’ is displayed. Tap the cartridge holder to remove air bubbles and release some medicine into the air.

  6. Inject the Medicine:

    • Turn the dose knob to ‘1’, insert the needle into your skin, and push the dose knob until it stops. Count to 5 slowly.

  7. Remove the Needle:

    • Ensure ‘0’ is displayed before removing the needle. If the full dose isn’t received, reinsert the needle without redialing the dose.

  8. Dispose of the Needle:

    • Replace the outer needle shield, unscrew the capped needle, and dispose of it in a sharps container. Do not dispose of needles in household waste. Each pen has 4 doses and should be disposed of after all doses have been injected.

In most cases, the side effects associated with Mounjaro may not last more than a few days. For example,  nausea or diarrhoea may quickly go away after your body has gotten used to taking the medication. But some side effects may last longer, especially if they are serious.

The slow digestion and reduced appetite caused by Mounjaro will continue for as long as you use the medication. Most digestive issues should improve within a month, but they might return temporarily when you increase your dose.

Some common side effects of Mounjaro are:

  • Nausea: often occurs at the beginning of treatment and may decrease over time.

  • Diarrhoea: common during the initial weeks of use.

  • Vomiting: usually mild to moderate in severity.

  • Constipation: can occur along with other gastrointestinal symptoms.

  • Indigestion: may cause discomfort in the stomach area.

  • Abdominal pain: can range from mild to severe.

If side effects persist or become bothersome, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

You can inject Mounjaro in three different areas: your abdomen, thigh, or upper arm. There isn’t a single best site for the injection, so you can choose whichever location you find most comfortable. Some studies suggest that injecting into the abdomen might be less painful compared to the other sites.

Yes, you can switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro for more efficient weight loss. You have to wait for 5 weeks after injecting the last dose of Wegovy. Consult with your healthcare provider before making the switch. Please keep in mind that you can not use both injections simultaneously.

Yes, your GP can prescribe you Mounjaro for weight loss. You can also get a private prescription for Mounjaro from The Care Pharmacy – a UK-registered online pharmacy.

Yes, Mounjaro is approved by the MHRA and is readily available at The Care Pharmacy. You just have to fill out an online consultation form to check your eligibility and if approved, it’ll be delivered to your doorstep the next day.

Wegovy FAQs

Who might benefit from Wegovy 7.2mg?

Wegovy 7.2mg may be suitable for people who have already used the 2.4mg dose but find their weight loss has slowed down or stopped. It can provide an additional boost for those who still have weight-related health goals to reach. Your healthcare provider will decide if the higher dose is right for you, based on your progress and how well you’ve tolerated treatment so far.

Weight loss varies from person to person, but many people see progress within the first few months of treatment. For those moving up from 2.4mg, the higher dose may help restart weight loss after a plateau. Long-term results are usually achieved with consistency, lifestyle changes, and regular follow-up.

Wegovy 7.2mg has not yet been approved in the UK, but approval is expected soon. Once authorised, it will be available through private providers, with NHS access to be confirmed later.

When will Wegovy 7.2mg be available?

Wegovy 7.2mg is expected to launch in the UK later this year. The exact timing will depend on regulatory approval and supply. Once it becomes available, patients already using Wegovy may be able to move up to this new option with guidance from their healthcare provider.

Both doses work in the same way to support weight loss by helping to control appetite and food intake. The 7.2mg dose is stronger, which means it may deliver greater results for people who need extra support. It is generally considered when someone has tolerated the lower dose well but still has further goals to reach.

Currently, the NHS only offers Wegovy up to the 2.4mg dose for patients who meet specific criteria. The 7.2mg option will first be available privately. In the future, it may also be added to NHS treatment plans once it has been reviewed and approved.

Saxenda FAQs

Q: Do I need a prescription to get Saxenda in the UK?

A: Yes — Saxenda is a prescription only medicine (POM) in the UK. It must be prescribed by a qualified UK prescriber and dispensed via a pharmacy registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council such as The Care Pharmacy.

A: Treatment begins at 0.6 mg daily and increases weekly to reach the 3.0 mg maintenance dose by week 5. Stay on the maintenance dose thereafter, as directed by your prescriber.

A: Yes — the MHRA has issued warnings about falsified Saxenda pens in the UK market. These may contain other substances (e.g. insulin) and pose serious health risks. Always obtain Saxenda through legitimate prescribers and pharmacies such as The Care Pharmacy.

A: No dose adjustment is needed for mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment. Saxenda is not recommended in severe renal impairment (CrCl < 30 ml/min) or severe hepatic impairment. Use with caution where appropriate.

Q: How does Saxenda work for weight loss?

A: Saxenda contains liraglutide, a GLP-1 analogue that suppresses appetite and slows gastric emptying, helping you feel fuller and reduce calorie intake when used alongside diet and exercise.

A: Adults with BMI ≥ 30 kg/m² (obesity), or BMI 27–30 kg/m² (overweight) with at least one weight-related comorbidity, may be eligible. Decisions are always made by a UK clinician based on individual assessment.

A: Common effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, injection site reactions, headache, fatigue, dizziness, and low blood sugar (hypoglycaemia). Most are mild to moderate and diminish over time.

A: In the UK, Saxenda may be prescribed for adolescents aged 12 and over with obesity, under specialist guidance. Use in children under 12 or with type 2 diabetes in teens has not been established.

Nevolat FAQs

What is Nevolat?

Nevolat is a prescription weight loss medication in the form of a daily injectable pen containing liraglutide, a GLP-1 receptor agonist.

Nevolat mimics the GLP-1 hormone, regulating appetite by slowing stomach emptying and increasing feelings of fullness, leading to reduced calorie intake.

Week 1: 0.6 mg

Week 2: 1.2 mg

Week 3: 1.8 mg

Week 4: 2.4 mg

Week 5 onwards: 3.0 mg

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, and headache. These are generally mild and decrease over time.

Non-pharmacological approaches include:

  • Structured weight loss programs

  • Nutritional counselling

  • Physical activity

  • Behavioural therapy

Yes, but it’s essential to consult your healthcare provider. Transitioning between medications requires careful planning to avoid overlapping effects or gaps in treatment.

Nevolat contains the same active ingredient (liraglutide) as Saxenda and functions similarly. It is often considered a generic or alternative to Saxenda.

When you first start Nevolat, a single pen will last 17 days, and the first full pack of five pens will last six weeks. Once you have achieved the maintenance dose, a pack of five pens will last 30 days.

What is Nevolat used for?

Nevolat is used for weight management in adults with obesity or overweight conditions accompanied by weight-related health issues.

Administer Nevolat once daily via subcutaneous injection in the abdomen, thigh, or upper arm, following the prescribed dosing schedule.

Clinical studies have shown that Nevolat, combined with a calorie-controlled diet and increased physical activity, can lead to significant weight loss.

Alternative treatments include:

  • Medications: Orlistat, Saxenda, Wegovy (semaglutide), Mounjaro (tirzepatide)

  • Surgical options: Bariatric surgery

  • Lifestyle interventions: Diet, exercise, behavioural therapy

Nevolat (liraglutide): Daily injection

Wegovy (semaglutide): Weekly injection

Mounjaro (tirzepatide): Weekly injection

Each has different mechanisms of action, dosing schedules, and efficacy profiles.

If you miss a dose and it’s within 12 hours of your usual time, take it as soon as possible. If more than 12 hours have passed, skip the missed dose and resume your regular schedule. Do not take an extra dose to make up for the missed one.

Weight loss effects can be observed within the first few weeks. However, it’s recommended to assess effectiveness after 12 weeks on the 3.0 mg/day dose. If you haven’t lost at least 5% of your initial body weight by then, consult your doctor about continuing treatment.
